PRESIDENT OF INDIA PRESENTS PRESIDENT’S STANDARD OF BODYGUARD AND REGIMENTAL STANDARD TO THE PRESIDENT’S BODYGUARD

The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu presented a new Standard of Bodyguard and renewed Regimental Standard to the President’s Bodyguard (PBG) at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan today (November 16, 2023). The Regiment was presented the Standard of Bodyguard and their Regimental Standard 60 years ago in 1963 by the then President of India, Dr S. Radhakrishnan.

In her brief remarks on the occasion, the President congratulated all officers and soldiers of President’s Bodyguard on the completion of 250 glorious years of the Regiment. She appreciated the PBG for their excellent military traditions and professionalism. She said that they are the flag bearers of the rich heritage and culture of our land. She stated that the honour of being the President’s Bodyguard bring additional responsibility to them. She expressed confidence that they will strive with dedication, discipline and valour to maintain the best traditions of Rashtrapati Bhavan and set examples for other regiments of the Indian Army.

The President’s Bodyguard is the oldest regiment in the Indian Army, having been raised as the Governor-General’s Bodyguard (later the Viceroy’s Bodyguard) in 1773. On January 27, 1950, the regiment was renamed the President’s Bodyguard.
