In a proud moment for Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Professor Vibha Sharma, a distinguished faculty member from the Department of English, has been conferred with the prestigious National Teacher Award 2025.
The award was presented by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. Professor Sharma is among 21 educators across the country, drawn from higher education institutions and polytechnics, who were selected this year for their exemplary contributions to teaching and academia.
The National Teacher Award, instituted by the Ministry of Education, recognises excellence in pedagogy, innovation in classroom practices, and commitment to nurturing the next generation of learners. The award carries a Certificate of Merit, a silver medal, and a cash prize of ₹50,000.

Professor Vibha Sharma has been associated with AMU’s Department of English, Faculty of Arts, where she has established herself as a mentor and guide to countless students. Known for her engaging teaching style, sharp academic insights, and emphasis on critical thinking, she has been a pillar of the university’s intellectual environment. Her selection for the award acknowledges not only her academic achievements but also her ability to inspire students beyond classrooms. Colleagues describe her as a teacher deeply committed to inclusive education and student welfare. Social media was also flooded with messages from alumni and students celebrating her honour. Many highlighted her role in shaping careers and guiding young minds through both scholarship and mentorship.
The National Teacher Awards are presented annually to teachers from schools, polytechnics, and higher education institutions across India. The recognition is meant to celebrate educators who go beyond traditional methods and demonstrate innovation, resilience, and leadership in the field of education. By honouring Professor Sharma, the Ministry of Education has also brought focus to the contributions of educators in the field of literature, language, and humanities — areas often overlooked amid the push for technical education.
Professor Vibha Sharma’s recognition serves as an inspiration for educators nationwide, particularly those in higher education who often juggle teaching, research, and administration. For AMU, the award highlights its continuing tradition of producing scholars and teachers whose influence extends far beyond the classroom. As the university community celebrates this milestone, Professor Sharma’s journey stands as a testament to the transformative power of dedicated teaching in shaping both individuals and society.
