Hajipur, 13 February

In a major push toward promoting sustainable tourism and civic hygiene, the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) Hajipur organized an extensive Tourist Awareness Programme (TAP) across three iconic locations in Bihar. Held under the Swachhata Action Plan (SAP) of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, the initiative saw large-scale participation from students and faculty at Gandhi Ghat in Patna, the historic Hariharnath Temple in Sonpur, and the Ashokan Pillar in Vaishali.
The campaign was designed to sensitize both domestic and international tourists about the importance of maintaining the sanctity and cleanliness of heritage sites. To make the message engaging and impactful, professional troupes performed high-energy Nukkad Nataks (street plays) at each venue. These performances used humor and drama to highlight the ill effects of littering and the collective responsibility of citizens in upholding the “Swachh Bharat” vision.

Taking a hands-on approach, students and faculty members of IHM Hajipur conducted intensive cleaning drives at all three locations, removing waste and demonstrating proper disposal methods. The visual impact of the campaign was further amplified by the display of vibrant banners and placards featuring slogans on cleanliness and environmental conservation. As a token of appreciation and a reminder of the day’s message, eco-friendly giveaways were distributed to the tourists and local visitors present.
The public response to the initiative was overwhelmingly positive, with visitors at Gandhi Ghat, Hariharnath Temple, and the Ashokan Pillar showing great enthusiasm and even joining the students in their cleaning efforts.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Mr. Pulak Mandal remarked, “Our heritage sites are the pride of our nation. Through this Tourist Awareness Programme, we aim to transform every visitor into a brand ambassador for a clean India.” Dr. Sumit Chatterjee, HOD, emphasized the educational aspect, stating, “By bringing our students to these historical landmarks, we are teaching them that hospitality begins with the preservation of our environment.” Mr. Murtaza Kamal, AAO, added, “The enthusiasm shown by the public today reinforces our commitment to the Ministry’s Swachhata Action Plan. It is heartening to see the community rally behind such a noble cause.”
