In a shocking incident from Azara, an elderly couple was rescued after allegedly being tortured and starved by their own son for nearly a month. Kamal Prasad Das, a 76-year-old writer and intellectual, and his wife Neeru Das were found in critical condition, having been locked in a room without food or light. The couple was rescued by concerned locals with the help of the Azara police.

Their son, Dipankar Prasad Das, a software engineer, is believed to be suffering from mental health issues, specifically Bipolar Disorder. According to local reports, Dipankar had been physically abusing his parents and confining them to their home for weeks.

A local resident, speaking to the media, said, “We found Kamal Prasad Das and his wife in a severely weakened state. They had been hiding in a room of their house for nearly a month after enduring torture from their son. He has been under psychiatric care and claims to have believed his parents were no longer alive. His behavior has been erratic, including eating raw meat and eggs. We are concerned that without proper intervention, he could pose a further threat.”

While the elderly couple has been taken to the hospital for medical attention, calls have been made for immediate psychiatric treatment for Dipankar. The locals are urging authorities to transfer him to Tezpur Mental Hospital to prevent any further harm. The case has raised alarm within the community, highlighting the need for both protection of the elderly and urgent medical intervention for their son.
