A 63-year-old American woman, Elaine Berry Thompson, died in a road accident on Saturday in Lumding, Assam’s Hojai district.

Police reported that Thompson was riding her Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle (registration number AS 11 N 0804) from Silchar to Dhemaji when a speeding truck hit her. The truck, an Ashok Leyland, caused a severe collision, and the driver fled the scene immediately.

Rupam Bordoloi, the Additional Superintendent of Police in Hojai district, confirmed the incident.

“We received a call about the accident around 12:45 PM. When our team arrived, we learned that the victim was a U.S. citizen. She was taken to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival,” Bordoloi said.

The police also shared that Thompson was a frequent visitor to India over the past five to six years. She was a seasoned solo motorcyclist and was possibly involved in social work during her travels.
