Karam Puja Mahotsav – 2023 organized by Mashal Social Welfare Society on 24 September

New Delhi, Saturday, September 23, 2023: A meeting was held in the Tourist Hostel Auditorium located at New Delhi YMCA under the leadership of the patron of Mashal Social Welfare Society (Regd) organization Shri. Yuvraj Bodh and National President Mr. Mohan Baraik to organize the Karam Mahotsav-2023 on the eve of Karam Mahotsav-2023.
Karam Puja Mahotsav is being organized with the courtesy of Tribal Ministry and TRIFED and on this auspicious occasion, Shri Arjun Munda ji, Honorable Minister of Tribal Affairs, Government of India will especially participate in the program as the chief guest.
In the meeting, National Patron of the organization Shri.. Yuvraj Bodh said that this program is being organized under the leadership of former MP and Union Minister of Lok Sabha  Mr. Jual Oram. Mashal Social Welfare Society has been organizing various tribal festivals in the National Capital Region of Delhi for the last many years. The work done by the organization in promoting tribal traditional art culture is highly commendable. Today, around 30 lakh tribal communities from different states migrate in Delhi and migrate to different areas of Delhi/NCR.
National President of the organization, Shri Mohan Baraik addressed “Karam festival is a big festival of tribal communities mainly of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Bihar”. Tribal society is connected with water, forest and land. This festival is celebrated on the Shukla Paksha day of Ekadashi of Bhado month. Women observe fast and worship Lord Karam for the happiness, prosperity of their home and the longevity of their brother. On the day of Ekadashi, Pahan fasts and as per the rituals, a branch of Karam tree is cut and brought before sunset. After sunset, the cut Karam tree is installed in the courtyard of the house, the worshipers sit around the established Karam tree, listen to the story of Karam and worship it with due rituals through Pahan. After listening to the Karam story by Pahan, they circumambulate the Karam Dal with traditional cultural dance, singing and playing and this sequence continues throughout the night.
In the meeting, General Secretary of the organization, Smt. Rozina said that Karam Puja Mahotsav should get the status of a national festival. Just as the Honorable Prime Minister announced to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Birsa Munda as Tribal Pride Day, similarly through the press, I request the Honorable Prime Minister to make efforts to give Karam Puja the status of a national festival and please wish the nation a happy Karam Puja for which the entire tribal society will remain indebted to you.
In the morning, the duly installed Karam Daal is taken out with traditional rituals and with dancing and singing, all the worshipers take it for immersion in the river.
Regional artists of tribal society from many states of the country will participate in the program and will showcase their traditional, cultural and art. They will mainly include Oraon, Munda, Khadiya, Santhal, Bodo, Ho, Kadar, Bhil and Chik-Badaik etc. Main attractions: Karam Puja Mahotsav, colorful cultural program and the first winner of Simdega Talent Show 2019 and selected artist of Voice of Jharkhand, Kumari Rani Badaik will be present.
Finally, Shri Mohan Baraik said that many other special guests like MPs, MLAs, social workers and the entire tribal community living in the National Capital Region Delhi NCR have been invited to participate in the eve Karam Puja Mahotsav organized by Mashal Social Welfare Society. It will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2024, from 10:00 am to 06:00 pm, at NDMC Convention Centre, Parliament Street, New Delhi-110001.
The members present in the meeting included Patron Mr. Yuvraj Bodh, National President Mr. Mohan Baraik, National Vice President Mr. Alok Michyari, Mr. Abhishek Rathore, Mr. Dharmendra Gadiok, Mr. Madan Rai, Mr. Pradeep Kannaujiya, General Secretary Rojina Backer, Mrs. Pratima Minj, Mr. Gangaram Gagrai, Many people like Ayub Backr etc. participated.
