*Dibrugarh, Aug 31:* Security forces successfully unearthed a substantial cache of arms and ammunition in the Upper Dehing Reserve Forest, located in Tinsukia district of eastern Assam, on Saturday.
Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP) G.P. Singh announced the recovery on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “In our continued efforts to combat illegal weapon possession, police in Tinsukia have recovered one Heckler & Koch submachine gun (SMG), 130 rounds of ammunition, two magazines, and approximately one kilogram of PEK explosive powder. The cache is suspected to belong to a proscribed group active along the Assam-Arunachal border.”
Tinsukia Superintendent of Police Abhijit Gurav provided further details, stating, “Acting on a tip-off, we conducted a joint operation in the Upper Dehing Reserve Forest, where we discovered this large stash of arms and ammunition. We suspect that it may be linked to an insurgent group.”
Gurav added, “Our ongoing operations in the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border area indicate that overground workers may have concealed these weapons in the forest to evade detection by security forces.”
This discovery comes on the heels of earlier recoveries of arms and ammunition in the forests of Tinsukia district. As a result, security forces have intensified search operations in the Upper Dehing Reserve Forest.
