CRESCENTIA 2K25, the Annual Cultural, Sports and Technical Festival of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), kicked off with Badminton, Table tennis and Athletics in the MAK Pataudi Sports complex, JMI on 20th September 2024.
The festival is named as CRESCENTIA which means GROWTH, implying the growth of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology, in all aspects. The event was inaugurated by the Officiating Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohammad Shakeel by starting a Badminton game.
Earlier, in his inaugural address, Prof. Prof. Mohammad Shakeel congratulated the students for their enthusiasm, emphasizing on the importance of sports and extracurricular activities. He mentioned that engineers are thought to be boring, mathematical/analytical geniuses, only interested in solving problems, however festivals like CRESCENTIA proves that they are capable of doing a whole lot of activities such as sports/cultural and of course Technical activities. The Vice Chancellor Congratulated the Dean, Prof. Mini Thomas and the Faculty of Engineering for the complete Curriculum Revision of the B Tech programs, with Minors and Honors to give more choices/Flexibility to students and for introducing 3 New B Tech programs in emerging areas like Data Sciences, VLSI Technology and Electrical & Computer Engineering. He congratulated the 7 Faculty members who are in the Top 2% Stanford list of Scientists.
Prof. Mini S. Thomas, Dean Faculty of Engineering Technology, welcoming the guests and participants touched upon the importance of such activities. National Education Policy 2020, enables recognizing, identifying, and fostering the unique capabilities of each student, in both academic and non-academic spheres; no hard separations between curricular and extra-curricular activities, multidisciplinary and a holistic education across the sciences, social sciences, arts, humanities, and sports for a multidisciplinary world, in order to ensure the unity and integrity of all knowledge. Hence activities such as these are absolutely essential for the holistic development of the student. She Congratulated the Faculty Coordinators Prof. Shabana Mehfuz, Prof. Tanvir Ahmad and Dr. Ahteshamul Haq and the Sports Council President Mohammad Wasim for their efforts.
During CRESCENTIA 2K25, Sports events being organised include, Athletics, Badminton, Tabel Tennis, Football Cricket, with Basket Ball and Volleyball added this year. The sports events had registrations from 800+ students. The sports competitions will continue till end of October 2024 and a few events are planned for next semester in February 2025.
