An explosion occurred at the residence of Khashim Vashum, Manipur’s Minister for Veterinary & Animal Husbandry and Transport, in the Hamleikhong area of Ukhrul district on Saturday evening, around 8:40 pm. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. Vashum, who is also a member of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and a coalition partner of the ruling BJP, was not at home when the blast took place.
Local authorities, including Ukhrul police, promptly arrived at the scene and have begun investigating the cause of the explosion. While no casualties have been reported, the incident has added to the already high tensions in Manipur, which has recently been plagued by civil unrest.
In a related development, the Joint Action Committee (JAC), which was formed in response to the Kakwa Naorem Leikai tragedy, has announced a 24-hour general strike. This strike, scheduled to begin at midnight on Saturday, is expected to impact normal life in the region.
