Celebrating Shri Vinod Gupta, Industry-Academia Partnerships, and Artisanal Heritage
Jodhpur, November 26, 2024: The Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur celebrated its prestigious Honoris Causa Degree Award Ceremony. The event was graced by luminaries, including Chief Guest His Highness Maharaja Gaj Singh Ji of Marwar-Jodhpur, Distinguished Guest of Honor Dr. Goverdhan Dutt Puri, Executive Director of AIIMS Jodhpur, and honoree Shri Vinod Gupta, a celebrated Indian-American entrepreneur and philanthropist.
In his welcome address, Prof. Avinash Kumar Agarwal, Director of IIT Jodhpur, paid tribute to the honoree’s impactful contributions. “We are inspired by Shri Vinod Gupta Ji’s extraordinary journey of resilience and his dedication to transforming lives through education and innovation. His story reminds us of the transformative power of knowledge and the importance of giving back to society.” He further emphasized the institute’s commitment to fostering innovation and leadership that drives societal progress.
The ceremony’s centerpiece was the conferral of the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) degree upon Shri Vinod Gupta. Accepting the honor, Shri Gupta expressed his gratitude and reiterated his commitment to advancing education, stating, “This recognition strengthens my resolve to continue contributing to the empowerment of communities through education and technology. I am deeply moved by IIT Jodhpur’s vision and honored to be part of this journey.”
The event also marked a significant milestone in the collaboration between IIT Jodhpur and AIIMS Jodhpur. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Goverdhan Dutt Puri highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary innovation. “IIT Jodhpur and AIIMS Jodhpur’s collaboration on the MedTech program is unparalleled, offering a one-of-a-kind curriculum in the country. Together, we are building strong teams, driving innovation, and creating opportunities to realize the dream of ‘Make in India’ through affordable medical technologies.”
The exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding with Genpact added another feather to the institute’s cap. The partnership, which establishes a Chair Professor position and industry-funded Ph.D. fellowships, underscores IIT Jodhpur’s commitment to fostering cutting-edge research and promoting industry-academia collaboration. “We are committed to promoting AI, computer science, and digital science research as part of our CSR program. By aligning with the Digital Bharat Solution and emphasizing women’s empowerment, we advance learning and open new areas of solutions for our country. The evening also featured the distribution of Patent-design certificates to artisans under the Jodhpur City Knowledge and Innovation Foundation (JCKIF). This initiative celebrates and safeguards traditional crafts, ensuring their commercial viability and cultural preservation.
The ceremony concluded with the national anthem and the departure of the academic procession, leaving attendees inspired by the evening’s celebration of excellence and collaboration. IIT Jodhpur continues to strengthen its role as a hub of innovation, fostering partnerships and creating opportunities to empower future generations.
