Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has instructed all state MPs, cabinet members, and district Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to provide key inputs to ensure the successful rollout of Orunodoi 3.0 and the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
During a video conference with MPs, MLAs, and DCs on Saturday, CM Sarma outlined preparations for the statewide launch of Orunodoi 3.0 and the NFSA on September 19, 2024. He emphasized the importance of raising awareness among potential beneficiaries and directed DCs to hold constituency-level meetings before the official launch in Dispur. The Orunodoi scheme, first introduced on October 2, 2020, provides financial support to over 24 lakh low-income households in Assam, with women designated as the primary beneficiaries. Under the scheme, Rs 1,000 is transferred monthly via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Sarma also highlighted the state’s commitment to development in newly created constituencies, despite changes since the last parliamentary election, with legislators now serving multiple constituencies. He added that Orunodoi 3.0 will be linked to Aadhaar, with eligibility restricted to ration cardholders.
The scheme’s rollout will be managed through polling booths, and the income cap for ration card eligibility will be Rs 4 lakh annually, while Orunodoi benefits will be limited to households earning Rs 2 lakh or less. Sarma also called for the formation of District Level Surveillance Committees, led by DCs, and urged ministers to provide feedback for improvement. He stressed using local languages to enhance awareness of both the Orunodoi scheme and NFSA.
