WESTERN RAILWAY REVISES PORTERAGE CHARGES OF RAILWAY SAHAYAKS FOR ENHANCED PASSENGER EXPERIENCE

Western Railway has recently revised its porterage charges payable to Railway Sahayaks to ensure efficient and affordable services for passengers, w.e.f 1st June, 2025. The updated rates apply to various services, including head loads and wheeled barrows.

According to a press release issued by Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, Shri Vineet Abhishek, the porterage charges have been revised across all WR stations. Passengers may either choose to carry the luggage on head load or wheeled barrow through Sahayak as per their convenience. The term head load means a quantity of upto 2 Bags / suitcases / items of personal luggage, which a Sahayak can reasonably carry manually without wheeled barrows. If weight of a Unit Bag/ package is above 20 kgs & upto 40 kgs, additional ₹ 50/- per unit needs to be paid to the porter for head load only (not for luggage on Wheel Barrow)
The revised rates of porterage charges effective from 1st June,2025 are as under:

A] Rates for Head Load per Trip:
• The charges for head load services vary based on the class of the station. The charges applicable for Mumbai Central, Surat, Ahmedabad, Bandra Terminus Vapi, Vadodara, Indore, Ratlam, Sabarmati, Rajkot, Ujjain & Gandhidham stations as well as other non – suburban stations classified as NSG3 and NSG4 the rate is ₹100/-.
• The charges for remaining non – suburban stations classified as NSG5, NSG6, HG1, HG2, and HG3 will be ₹80/-.
• Likewise, the charges at all suburban stations of WR is also ₹100/-.
• The charges applicable for carrying luggage from Dadar Western Railway to Dadar Central is ₹100/-.

B] Rates for Wheeled Barrows per Trip:
Passengers can also avail the wheeled barrow services (two or four wheeled barrows) for ferrying luggage weighing up to 160 kgs, at a rate of ₹150/-. per trip. This service is particularly useful for those carrying heavy or bulky items

C] Rates for carrying Sick or Disabled Persons:
Railways has introduced specific rates for carrying sick or disabled persons. When carried by a wheeled chair or on a stretcher by two persons, the charge is ₹150/-. While when carried by four persons, a charge of ₹200/-. is applicable.

D] Waiting Charges:
• Railways has also outlined the facility of waiting charges for passengers. The first 30 minutes are free, after which, every half an hour or part thereof, charge is incurred. The rates vary by station class. A charge of ₹100/-. is applicable for Mumbai Central, Surat, Ahmedabad, Bandra Terminus, Vapi, Vadodara, Indore, Ratlam, Sabarmati, Rajkot, Ujjain & Gandhidham stations as well as other non-suburban stations classified as NSG3 & NSG4.
• The remaining non – suburban stations classified as NSG5, NSG6, HG1, HG2, and HG3, the charges will be ₹80/-.
• Likewise, the charges at all suburban stations of WR is also ₹100/-.
